Citizen engagement: socially sustainable design of renovations
In three major German cities – Karlsruhe, Bochum, and Leipzig – tenants in three residential areas can suggest improvements for upcoming renovations. Should the buildings have district heating or heat pumps? Should the buildings be insulated? Researchers in the “Wärme4Alle” project are testing which type of engagement is most appropriate for each area and how to facilitate the process.
IBN comment: The planned amendment to the building code also aims to promote “digital citizen engagement.” We consider it a useful tool for community projects and for gaining citizen acceptance for renovation projects in residential neighborhoods and housing estates.
