Forerunners of the current Institute of Building Biology + Sustainability IBN include the Healthy Building + Living Working Group (Arbeitsgruppe Gesundes Bauen + Wohnen) (1969-1976), the Institute of Building Biology (Institut für Baubiologie) (1976-1983), as well as the Institute of Building Biology + Ecology Neubeuern (Institut für Baubiologie + Ökologie Neubeuern) (1983-2014).
In 2014, a new IBN building was established in Rosenheim. It was the declared goal to use a holistic approach in the design and construction of it, meeting all current requirements of building biology-based, healthy and sustainable building guidelines. The new building is a so-called Plusenergiehaus or energy-plus building made of renewable and mineral-based building materials, supporting a healthy indoor air quality and reducing electrosmog as much as possible. A model suite built to meet the needs of allergy sufferers is also included. The building is easily accessible by public transportation (bus stop close by).
Starting in 2015, this flagship project will give us the opportunity to gain concrete insights into the selection of building materials and building systems used, including monitoring and researching their properties.
In this blog, you can follow our progress on the construction site.
