Dedicated cavities between the rafters, in the exterior and interior wood frame wall assemblies of the upper floor as well as in the external thermal insulation composite system on the ground floor are insulated with blown-in wood chip insulation (U-value of 0.040 W/m2K, bulk density ca. 45 kg/m3).
This type of insulation—like the installed wood and soft fiberboards—not only provides great thermal insulation during winter, but also serves as a great thermal protection during summer. For delivery, the wood chips are compressed and put into bags and, for installation, a blowing machines is used to blow them with high pressure through a flexible hose into the closed cavities.
Blowing in the insulation on the entire upper floor (roof, exterior and interior walls) took a little more than one day.The external thermal insulation composite system on the ground floor has not been finished yet and will be described at a later date, including all its components.
