Nuclear energy is not a viable option for achieving rapid and affordable climate action
Renewable energy is key to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in the global energy transformation by 2050. This is the conclusion of a new Öko-Institut study, commissioned by the German Environment Agency (UBA). The study examines the role of nuclear energy in global energy scenarios and national expansion plans. It also considers costs, flexibility, climate risks, and environmental impacts. In short: Despite comparatively low emissions over the course of its entire life cycle, nuclear energy is not a viable option for quickly, reliably, and cost-effectively reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
